Five new countries will be included in the UN Security Council on Wednesday, whereas five other non-permanent members of the Security Council will leave it, with the UN Security Council being chaired by Vietnam in January, RIA Novosti reported.

The UN Security Council has 15 member countries, 5 of whom are permanent and the 10 others are temporary members.

The permanent members are Russia, the US, Great Britain, China, and France. They have a veto power.

The remaining 10 members of the UN Security Council are elected for two years. Equatorial Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Peru, and Poland were elected for 2018-2019, and Germany, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and South Africa—for 2019-2020.
