Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a decree to appoint Mikhail Mishustin as a Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
The document takes effect immediately after it is signed, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Earlier Russian parliament approved Mishustin's candidacy for the post.
Putin also signed a decree to appoint Dmitry Medvedev as the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.
