The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Uzbekistan (residence in Yerevan) has found out through the local Armenian community that murdered Uzbek fashion designer Nariman Grigoryan had taken this Armenian surname in honor of a famous boxer. His real name was Nariman Alymzhanov.

The embassy informs that Alymzhanov was born in Chirchik, Uzbekistan, to a Crimean Tatar father and a Russian mother.

He had taken the surname "Grigoryan" in honor of world-renowned Uzbek Armenian boxer Artur Grigoryan, who enjoys an exceptional reputation in Uzbekistan.

His being Armenian is actively denied in the Uzbek internet domain.
