Centrist Democrat International, which is holding its subsequent meeting in Yojiakarta, Indonesia, today adopted a resolution on the political situation in Armenia.

The resolution addresses the issues of democracy, media freedom, the politicized judiciary in Armenia and the repressions against President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan.

The resolution was authored and presented by the Republican Party of Armenia. In the resolution, the CDI warns the Armenian government about the transition to authoritarianism, calls on the Armenian authorities to fully respect the independence of the judiciary, expresses concern that Armenia’s judiciary is turning into a means of punishing political opponents, calls on the Armenian government to revisit these trends and focus on the future of the country, reminds the authorities about the importance of effective implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expresses concerns about the repressions and criminal case against President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan and adds that the CDI will continue to closely follow the democratic process in Armenia and support it for the benefit of the citizens of Armenia.
