Protests have been held in Baghdad demanding the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Reuters reported.

An influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for a meeting of the inhabitants of the country.

Protesters have signs reading: “No, no, America, no, no, Israel, no, no, colonialists”.

“We want them all out - America, Israel, and the corrupt politicians in government,” said Raed Abu Zahra, a health ministry worker from southern city of Samawa, who arrived by bus at night and stayed in Sadr City, a sprawling district of Baghdad controlled by the cleric’s followers.

According to Reuters, roads and bridges leading to the Green Zone, where the Iraqi government residences and several foreign diplomatic missions, including the US embassy, are blocked by concrete barriers. Iraqi security forces block access to gates to the zone.
