YEREAVAN. – Armenian serviceman who was wounded on 24 January shot himself, Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan told reporters.

The minister said he is critical, but the doctors are doing their best. The soldier will most likely be transported to Yerevan shortly.

A criminal case on charges of “suicide attempt” and “incitement to suicide” has been opened in connection with conscripts Henri-Hayk Zakarian and Armen Mesropyan who sustained gunshot wounds. Initial reports suggested they sustained gunshot wounds at a Defense Army military unit located in a northerly direction. Earlier Zakarian underwent a surgery.

“Another servicemen was slightly injured,” Tonoyan said. “The Ministry of Defense and the Defense Army are doing everything to minimize the number of such cases, however, separate cases occur.”
