The Armenian-American military cooperation is actively developing. Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian affairs in the office of the US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, stated this in her speech at an event dedicated to the Armenian Army Day at the Armenian Embassy in Washington, the Voice of America reports.

She noted, in particular, that the actively developing cooperation between the Armenian and the US Armed Forces is generating true excitement, and it is an honor to them to receive students from Armenia, and providing them with military education. She added that this year they also plan to develop cooperation with the National Defense Research University of Armenia, as well as to continue to train current and future leaders of the Armenian Armed Forces.

Cooper noted that the foundation of the bilateral defense cooperation between Armenia and the US is the expanding partnership between Armenia and the US state of Kansas. She said that the ongoing program with Kansas allows increasing the capacity of Armenia and NATO, and facilitating defense reforms in Armenia.

Armenian Ambassador to the US Varuzhan Nersesyan, for his part, said that Armenian-American military cooperation is taking place both in bilateral and multilateral contexts. He said that the strategic dialogue that launched last year between Armenia and the United States provides a platform for general negotiations, too.
