YEREVAN. – The lawyers’ team of Gagik Khachatryan, Armenia’s former State Revenue Committee chairman and ex-Finance Minister, has issued a statement saying that Khachatryan has serious health problems.

According to the lawyers, the hearing of their appeal against the court ruling extending Khachatryan's arrest will take place today at the Criminal Court of Appeal.

As per their statement, however, this court hearing comes amid numerous reports on Khachatryan's deteriorating health, and he has been in custody for seven months.

According to the lawyers, Khachatryan receives symptomatic treatment in prison, whereas he needs specialized care, and in the absence of medical care, irreversible consequences can occur.

As per the statement, before his arrest, Gagik Khachatryan was in Germany, but he returned to Yerevan upon the investigator's phone call, and did not to hide from the investigation.

According to the lawyers, Gagik Khachatryan received post-operative treatment in Germany, he has problems with his spine and movement system, and an implant is inserted in his body.
