YEREVAN. – Residents of Babajanyan Street in Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan are protesting against the construction of the North-South Highway; they point out that the road design poses obstacles to their safety.

These residents have sold their garages to the state, but say the problem is not the garages but the safety of the children.

"We are discussing the matter of safety and convenience of our road," said one resident. "Our kids play here."

He also noted that they would not mind if the area was greened and a park was built there.

"We say there remains only one exit road for our district," another demonstrator said. “We now have three entrances, three exits. The project provides four entrances, one exit; it is impossible to get out of that one exit even at non-working hours."

While people were complaining, equipment arrived and began to demolish the garages.

"Garages are theirs, let them demolish," said one citizen. "But the road will not be built; the residents are against it."
