YEREVAN. – The court hearing of the criminal case involving Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and some other former senior officials resumed today with the examination of the motion submitted by his lawyers.

At the previous hearing, attorneys Hovhannes Khudoyan and Aram Orbelyan filed a motion to terminate their client’s prosecution under Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code. They say the respective charge brought against Kocharyan runs counter to both domestic and international law as well as previously adopted legal acts.

It is about the "case of the seven." The prosecution—under Article 300.1—of seven in the March 1, 2008 events in Yerevan was terminated on the grounds that the article, which appeared a year after the alleged act, has no retroactive effect.

Earlier, the lawyers of the other defendants had also filed similar motions.
