YEREVAN. – There is reasonable suspicion that the materials contained in the volumes of the March 1, 2008 events are sufficient to solve the 10 murders. Armenia's second President Robert Kocharyan said this at his court hearing today.

The former president compared the criminal case to a building. “If we compare it with a building, they started from the roof, we were found guilty, they found the article, we then separated from the case materials only those which, in their view, form the basis of the evidence,” he said. "We have repeatedly asked to provide the full volume of materials."

According to him, reading WikiLeaks publications gives the impression that the US Embassy had more information about domestic political events in Armenia than the National Security Service of the country. “What I read there has been reported to me; it’s not in the case,” he noted. "There are reasonable grounds to suspect that there is sufficient material in the 600 volumes of the case to solve the 10 murders. They just don't want to do it. One of the reasons is that it may lead in another direction which would contradict this case. And second, the question will arise whether or not the victims should attend this session; this motive is obvious to me.”

“I have spoken about this to show that refusal gives rise to deeper suspicion,” Kocharyan added. “They can be essential to the case and are not deliberately provided. I would like you [the presiding judge] to consider this when making a decision. Many arguments have been brought, each of them is sufficient to drop the case; a whole bunch of arguments."
