Prosecutor Gevorg Baghdasaryan commented on second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s statement and told reporters that he doesn’t think it was a reasonable statement.

Baghdasaryan refused to comment on the main case and questioned the claim that there are materials in the case that can help reveal those guilty of the deaths of 10 people since that would mean concealing the crime.

Commenting on the fact that there was a time when Armenia’s prosecutors had refused criminal prosecution under Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, Gevorg Baghdasaryan voiced confidence that the attorneys and prosecutors are currently interpreting the legal norms differently and that the prosecutors’ actions can’t be a precedent at all.

He also didn’t agree with the opinion that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe had considered the norm enshrined in Article 300 of the Criminal Code vague. Moreover, as the prosecutor mentioned, the “improved” version of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code improves the state of the accused-on-trial since it narrows the scopes of acts that could have been deemed to be offenses.
