The European Parliament approved during a plenary session in Strasbourg a resolution in which it advocated talks on the broadest association deal with Britain, but with respect for the EU interests.

The resolution was supported by 534 MPs, 39 voted against, 69 abstained, RIA Novosti reported.

The MPs noted that during the upcoming talks on the association it should be taken into account that a third country cannot enjoy the same rights as an EU member state.

The EP also pointed out that during the talks it is also necessary guarantee the integrity of the single market and the EU customs union, protection of the most sensitive sectors.
