YEREVAN. - Armenian Committee of the Red Cross will hold a fundraising campaign to help Japan. 

Many subscribers have already received a message calling to help those affected by Japan’s   earthquake. Armenian customers can transfer money directly to the following account 1150000234040400 of Armbusinessbank or by sending word “japan” to 1900 number.

The campaign was launched on April 1 and will continue till the end of month, the Red Cross informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. The collected funds will be allocated to Japanese Red Cross through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

On March 11, the largest earthquake (9 magnitude) in the recent years hit the northeast of Japan, triggering a 10-meter tsunami and followed by several powerful aftershocks. A massive earthquake damaged cooling functions of the Fukushima nuclear plant, making the operator to pour seawater into reactors and let out radioactive air into atmosphere.

Over 14,000 people remain missing as Japan marked one month after a devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the country on March 11. According to latest data, the death toll reached 13,000.
