The Australian government will allocate 2 million Australian dollars (1.3 million US dollars) to develop a vaccine against a new type of coronavirus, Prime Minister Scott Morrison's website reported.

According to the statement, the priority of the government is to ensure the safety of the people of Australia, and these two million dollars will help in the development of a vaccine against coronavirus, RIA Novosti reported.

Fifteen cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Australia. The virus was detected in over 20 Australians on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.

The new COVID-19 coronavirus infection has killed 1,874 people so far. In the last day, 99 people have died from it, and all in China.

The total number of cases is 73,335. A total of 12,799 patients have recovered, but 58,662 others are still ill, and 17,795 of them are in severe or critical condition.
