YEREVAN. – I'm not going to resign. Artak Davtyan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, said this at a press conference today, referring to the recent deaths in the army.
"Of the 13 victims you stress, 4 were due to illness, and 4 were due to an accident," he said. “In the case of some casualties, I participated in the funeral and I was in those military units."
Asked who will answer for these deaths, Davtyan said: "We have a law before which everyone is equal; if guilty is decided by court, he will be punished. Now I do not consider it right to designate a person accountable in connection with any incident.
Service investigations are conducted in all cases. Based on the results of the service investigation, we have dismissals, discharges, and other disciplinary penalties (…). We also have incentives that have prevented suicides [in the army]."
