YEREVAN. – The meeting of the MPs with Artak Davtyan, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, was productive and meaningful. Naira Zohrabyan, opposition Prosperous Armenia faction MP at the National Assembly (NA) stated this during a press conference today.

According to her, many questions of concern were answered. "We, as a legislative body, still have much to do," the MP added. "We have made clear agreements on cooperation with the General Staff of the Armed Forces."

For his part, Andranik Kocharyan, an MP of the majority My Step faction at the NA, noted that the issues discussed have a high level of confidentiality. "We must bear in mind that the incidents in the armed forces force us to do everything for the army," he said. “Today the army should not become a target; we should all stand with the army."

A closed meeting of the NA Standing Committees on Defense and Security, and on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs was held in the NA today with the participation of Artak Davtyan.

Since the beginning of the year, 13 soldiers have been died in non-combat conditions in the Armed Forces of Armenia and in the Defense Army of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). On several of these incidents, a criminal case has been instituted on charges of causing suicide.
