Eights suicide attempts have been prevented in the army since June 2019, army chief Artak Davtyan told reporters.

Commenting on the rise in a number of deaths in the armed forces of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, Davtyan admitted that unacceptable morale that is typical for criminal subculture exists in the army.

“If any officer or official commits a crime, concealing it is not beneficial for the army. Of course, there are no taboos in the army,” Davtyan assured.

Davtyan met with the members of the Armenian parliament on Tuesday to discuss the recent disturbing events in the army. Thirteen soldiers have been killed in peacetime since January 1. Criminal cased on charges of inciting to suicide have been launched in relation to some cases.
