YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: “The law on NGOs submitted to the National Assembly recently by the SRC [State Revenue Committee], and which provides for full financial transparency, has far-reaching goals.

At first glance, it also seems to include the oversight of the "capital" of the Open Society Foundations [(OSF)] [international grantmaking network founded by business magnate George Soros], but they are de facto trying to put under the target of the SRC the NGOs that are against the authorities, first of all the VETO and [second President Robert] Kocharyan supporters, then, if necessary, to close them for any reason,” our NA [National Assembly] source said.

What will they try to find out? “All funding sources of NGOs will be specified, including private ones. The authority of assessment will solely belong to the SRC; that is, to the authorities."

"The main speaker at the NA Ombudsman's Committee, SRC Deputy Chairman Eduard Hovhannisyan, and [parliament majority] My Step [faction member] Maria Karapetyan, who works actively with the OSF, were presenting the law very ‘cooperatively.’"
