YEREVAN. – The EU assistance for energy savings in Armenia will be aimed at zeroing the interest rates on the respective loans. Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced about this at today's Cabinet meeting.

“Those 17 million euros will be loan grants; that is, it’s going to be a mix,” he said. "Seventeen million euros is a serious sum, and it can have an effect of zeroing the interest rate of about 100mn euros of loan."

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, noted that thus people in Armenia will be able to get loans to make their home more energy efficient, and the grant will be used to zero the percentage of the loan.

Pashinyan recalled that they will consider also pellet heating, which is used in many European countries. "That is, neither [natural] gas nor electricity is used to heat the apartment, but briquettes are used, the production of which we have spoken about."
