YEREVAN. – We have been discussing recently how to make the fight against corruption more effective and return much more money to the state budget, and we continue to have discussions with representatives of the law enforcement system, and that will be one of our most important tasks in the future. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at today's Cabinet meeting.

"During the 2018 pre-election process, I made the political statement that we should spend $2.5bn more over the next five years on our security needs, in particular, to raise the level of combat-readiness and armament of the Armed Forces, and 1.5 out of those $2.5bn should be generated from effective anticorruption efforts, including through the process of recovering stolen funds," Pashinyan said.

He asked whether, at this moment, he was pleased and satisfied with the respective amount and scale that exist. "Yes, we have had unprecedented successes," the PM said. "But on the other hand, the benchmarks we set are much higher, and we need to make this means more effective by improving our anticorruption systems and perfecting the legislation, because we all know its potential exists."
