The US authorities will be able to start acting on Monday under the new rules for issuing permits for permanent residence in the US, White House’s press service reported.

The new rules provide for stricter requirements for applicants who rely on state benefits.

The Department of Homeland Security will be able to begin implementing new legislation on Monday. New members of our society must be financially independent, the White House said in a statement.

Last October, a federal judge blocked a US administration decision allowing immigration services to refuse a green card or visa application to low-income immigrants, which the government believes could be a burden for US taxpayers. However, a higher court quashed the decision.
