When asked to present Moscow’s stance on the situation regarding the second and third Presidents of Armenia and the president of the Constitutional Court today, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin told reporters that Moscow is interested in seeing forces that realize the importance of the Russian-Armenian relations and the countries’ strategic cooperation, play a significant role in Armenia’s domestic politics.

He added that Russia treats everything taking place in Armenia carefully. “Russia is interested in stability so that there is maximum public consensus,” he said.

Second and third Presidents of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan are accused-on-trial in two different criminal cases. Moreover, Kocharyan has been under arrest for a long time and has received congratulatory remarks from President of Russia Vladimir Putin on different occasions.

On April 5, Armenia will hold a referendum to make amendments to a particular article of the Constitution. The authorities have proposed to terminate the powers of several members of the Constitutional Court early, including the powers of President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan, referring to them as representatives of the former “regime”.
