The judges of the Constitutional Court of Armenia failed to realize that things have changed in the country and what the Armenian people expect to see in terms of judicial reforms. This is what Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly Andranik Kocharyan told reporters today.

“Do you think saying ‘yes’ to the referendum for constitutional amendments is not a problem for Armenia? The judges of the Constitutional Court were the only ones who didn’t realize this. They left a financial burden on the country,” he said.

Yesterday none of the judges of the Constitutional Court applied for early retirement. February 27th marked the last day of the term prescribed by law for early retirement of the judges of the Constitutional Court. The law envisaged that the seven judges of the Constitutional Court could take advantage of the opportunity for early retirement prior to February 27th and could receive pensions in the amount of their respective salaries.
