Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) can never be a part of Azerbaijan. This is what head of the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Edmon Marukyan wrote on his Facebook page.

“During these days in February 1988, massacres and atrocious acts of violence were being carried out against the Armenian population in Sumgait. Of course, this is a crime against humanity that the Azerbaijani authorities constantly try to distort or falsify by stating the invented events of Khojaly as a counterargument. It is natural that those attempts are doomed to failure since it is impossible to conceal the truth. On our part, we constantly speak out about the tragedy of Sumgait from different podiums abroad and try to emphasize that the Azerbaijani regime is Armenophobic and xenophobic in general,” he wrote.

In reality, according to Edmon Marukyan, the Sumgait pogroms can’t be in the past since “Azerbaijan continues to act with the same Fascist logic”.

“The axing of an Armenian officer in his sleep, the atrocities that were recorded during the Four-Day Artsakh War in April 2016 and several other cases serve as brilliant evidence of this. All these facts have been presented to the world and mankind as evidence of the truth that Artsakh can never be a part of Azerbaijan,” the head of the faction wrote.
