Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has requested support from his American counterpart Donald Trump in Idlib, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier, US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey said Washington is ready to help Ankara with the supply of ammunition.

The situation in Idlib escalated after the terrorists of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group launched a large-scale attack on the positions of the Syrian government forces on February 27. Assad’s army responded to the fire. Turks were attacked and 36 soldiers have been killed, over 30 people were injured as a result of the attack. The Russian side took measures for a complete ceasefire by the Syrian forces, and the safe evacuation of the dead and wounded to Turkey have been ensured. The defense ministry noted Russian aircraft were not used there. 

Ankara has launched th eOperation Spring Shield against Syria the same day. According to Turkish data, three Syrian aircraft, eight helicopters, three drones, 151 tanks, 47 artillery guns, 52 multi-barrel missile launchers, eight air defense systems, 12 anti-tank guns, 51 armored vehicles, 60 military vehicles, ten ammunition depots have been destroyed since then, and 3138 Syrian soldiers have been killed.

Earlier, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov, in his turn, said Turkey was unable to fulfill several key commitments to solve the problems in Idlib.
