Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin today told reporters that the Armenian authorities have a lot of work to do in the agriculture sector and, in this sense, the European Union is making efforts to improve phytosanitary conditions along with the government.

She added that agriculture is one of Armenia’s major sectors and that the EU is actively working to achieve serious changes.

“As far as the EU Green Agriculture Initiative in Armenia is concerned, to implement the pilot project, the selected regions are regions in which the level of income of people is relatively low. The Initiative can help solve three issues, including the issues related to food safety, ecology and employment,” Wiktorin stated.

The 11.7-million Euro EU-GAIA Initaitive was launched in Armenia today, and the pilot project will be implemented in Armenia’s Tavush, Lori and Shirak Provinces.
