President of the Yerkrapah Union of Volunteer Land Defenders of Armenia Sasun Mikayelyan was right when he said that, unfortunately, there was a time when the approaches to and positions on the role and significance of the Union were not unequivocal. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated in his speech during an event dedicated to the 61st birthday of Sparapet (Commander-in-Chief Vazgen Sargsyan held by the Union today.
Nikol Pashinyan added that he unequivocally shared the view that the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders must not become politically affiliated and a part of politics because the battle for liberation, which is the unquestionable and irreplaceable value in modern Armenian history, can’t become the ownership of a political party, especially by any political authorities because this is the nation’s achievement, the wealth of the nation, and every citizen of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh and, in general, every Armenian must have the opportunity to take pride in that wealth.
“My question is what role the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders should play today. I believe it has to play a role in the preservation and enhancement of the spirit of victory of the people and the armed forces. I believe the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders must become the most operational reserve of the Armed Forces, and by saying ‘operational reserve’, I mean not only the phrase, but also the spirit of victory, and the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders is the organization that bears the spirit. The Union of Volunteer Land Defenders must be the guardian of the victories of the Armenian nation and convey that spirit to our army at any moment. This must be the priority action of the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders,” Prime Minister Pashinyan said, adding that this is an action that is linked to the agenda for security and development of the State, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh and, in general, all Armenians.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the victory that the Armenians achieved after the war was achieved so that every Armenian and every citizen of Armenia and Artsakh feels dignified and protected as the proud citizen of a proud country, the rights and opportunities of which are not only protected, but also guaranteed. The Prime Minister added that even though the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders wasn’t the only organization that made its contribution to the victory, it is clear that the Union is an organization that has clearly made some of the greatest contributions in shaping the glorious victory of the Armenian nation.
