The constitutional referendum was also discussed during Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with his European colleagues in Brussels. This is what head of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, deputy of the My Step faction Ruben Rubinyan told reporters in Brussels today.

“During all of our meetings today, we obviously touched upon the reforms taking place in Armenia and the developments unfolding in the country, and of course, the constitutional referendum was also discussed. We presented the past, present and future of the process. I must say that, based on my understanding, our European colleagues understand that the current problem in Armenia is linked to the need for development of the judiciary and that there is a need to solve the situation regarding the Constitutional Court,” he said.

When asked if the Armenian delegation managed to convince the European colleagues why Armenia needs to hold a referendum, Rubinyan said the goal is to be convincing for citizens of Armenia, not Europeans. “During meetings with our European friends, we express our position and present the reality, and I believe that there is an overall understanding of the problem that needs to be solved,” he said.

Touching upon the visit of President of the Republican Party of Armenia, third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to Brussels on March 5, he said the Republicans and Serzh Sargsyan are visiting different countries in order to pick on the authorities. “The Republicans and Serzh Sargsyan are trying to convince people that the authorities in Armenia is a dictatorship, everything is bad, there is an atmosphere of hatred, but I believe this is rather entertaining for rational people,” he said.
