On March 9, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN Mher Margaryan chaired the opening sitting of the 64th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, which featured speeches by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President of the United Nations General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, high-ranking officials of UN agencies and delegates of youth and civil society, as stated in the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

The 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women adopted a political declaration identifying both new and long-standing challenges to gender equality and women’s empowerment 25 years after the Fourth World Conference on Women.

In his welcoming address, Permanent Representative of Armenia Mher Margaryan attached importance to affirmation of the political will and clear commitment of the member states to achieve gender equality and reach the common goal for advancement of women and girls and the exercise of their rights everywhere. Ambassador Margaryan emphasized the pivotal role of women in public life.
