YEREVAN. – The Karabakh talks are about two key points, two contradictory positions that the parties have, I mean the status and borders, Artsakh presidential candidate Davit Babayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

When asked about red lines for Stepanakert, Babayan said all the rest issues are related to the above mentioned two problems.

“For us, the red lines are the following: in terms of status, there can be no return to the past, that is Artsakh cannot be in any relationship with Azerbaijan except for being a neighboring, equal state. We cannot consider any possibility of being a part of Azerbaijan,” Babayan said.

He ruled out that Artsakh could be an autonomous province or an autonomous republic.

“The idea of a common state was also rejected in 1988, and it was rejected by Azerbaijan. As for the borders, the borders must be such to ensure our independence, our security first. The boundaries that exist now are the least opportunity that enables us to provide that security,” he said.
