YEREVAN. – At this moment it is very difficult to assess what the developments will be; it depends on the force of the developments, the duration, and many other questions about what kind of rearrangements we will have with respect to national debt. Artur Stepanyan, a member of the Board of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), said this during a meeting with reporters, referring to the question of how much the external and internal debt amounts of the country will change in connection with the current crisis due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Asked by what means the government will provide 150 billion drams in support to Armenia’s economy, whether this will be done at the expense of borrowing money from the CBA, and what this may lead to, Stepanyan said. “The government will not borrow from the Central Bank. You know that today the government has quite a lot of means in the treasury account of the Central Bank. The government is building its future activities in such a way that the country will be in normal development. Taxes will be collected in the budget, all expenditures will be made, including capital expenditures, on which the Prime Minister pays great attention, and I believe that this package of 150 billion drams will actually be implemented as a result of last year's savings."
