President of Turkey Abdullah Gul arrived in Nakhchivan to attend the 9th Summit of the Heads of Turkic-speaking States.

On October 2, Gul met with Kurmanbek Bakiyev, President of Kyrgyzstan, and Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, Haberx e-source reports. Gul will participate in opening of Turkish-Azerbaijani bank October 3, and will visit Turkish Consulate and Gymnasium. According to the preliminary data, Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will not attend the summit.

The 1st Summit of Turkic-speaking countries was initiated by Turkish President Turgut Ozal in October 30, 1992 in Ankara.

The agenda of the 9th summit includes elaboration of a single alphabet and comparative dictionary of Turkish dialects, a joint energy policy, cooperation in communication sector, and the Karabakh issue.

Gul’s meeting with President of Azerbaijan is also on the agenda. It is expected that statements will be made on that Armenia-Turkey reconciliation will secure peace and stability in the region and will not jeopardize Azeri interests.

By the way, at the last Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkish speaking States, Head of the Azerbaijani Mejlis stated: “We speak different languages today. However, I hope that a day will come when we all will speak one language and will not need translators.”
