The effects of the coronavirus have severely damaged the economy in many countries, and to alleviate these effects, countries have taken various steps to provide social and economic assistance to their population and businesses, the Voice of America Armenian Service reported.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on March 16, the Armenian government declared a state of emergency, which was eased and lifted in May, maintaining only a number of restrictions.

Armenia is the country with the highest number of COVID-19 patients and deaths in the South Caucasus. And after the lifting of the state of emergency, the number of patients increased significantly.

According to the IMF, the government has offered a $300mn—which is 2 percent of Armenia’s GDP—aid and encouragement package

As per the International Monetary Fund, 18 social assistance packages have been adopted in this regard.
