YEREVAN. – Wearing face masks in the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia is first of all conditioned by the requirements of the Commandant’s Office, which clearly indicate the statistics, as well as the results of the research. Lilit Makunts, head of the majority My Step faction in the NA, stated this in a talk with journalists in the parliament on Tuesday, answering a journalist's remark that everyone in the NA now wears masks, there is a campaign now to wear masks, and question as to what has changed and why.

"The existence of numbers bespeaks that all of us, regardless of whether or not we consider ourselves infected, need to take all possible measures. Since according to the Ministry of Health and the Commandant’s Office currently have, the masks carry out a preventive function, we must take that responsibility ourselves and not allow the infection to spread further," the MP said.

And to a journalist's remark that the opposition states that the authorities have failed the fight against the epidemic and the daily numbers of 400-500 speak about it, Makunts answered. "At the moment it is too early to talk about failing and succeeding because the coronavirus has not yet been overcome, both in Armenia and around the world (…). We should do our best to reduce the number of infections in Armenia and reduce the spread as much as possible. I think there should be no divisions between the authorities and the opposition on this issue, because the ultimate goal of all of us should be for all of us to succeed in Armenia in this situation."
