During a discussion on the package of bills on making amendments and supplements to the Electoral Code of Armenia in parliament today, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan declared that the amendments and supplements will provide the opportunity to make sure local shot callers or their representatives don’t have a chance to fight for power.
According to the minister, the struggle for power will be political and more civilized. “Political parties will be more interested in having a greater presence in not only Yerevan or Gyumri, but also small cities and villages. It will also be easier for them to join the councils of elders. The threshold for political parties will be lowered from 5% to 4%, and the threshold for alliances of political parties will be lowered from 8% to 6%,” he said.
