Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz has apologized for killing the Palestinian in Jerusalem who was autistic, AP reported.

Iyad Halak, 32, was shot dead in Jerusalem’s Old City on Saturday.

“We are really sorry about the incident in which Iyad Halak was shot to death and we share in the family’s grief,” Gantz said. “I am sure this subject will be investigated swiftly and conclusions will be reached.”

He also expressed confidence that an investigation would be conducted in connection with the incident.

According to the AP, the minister was sat near PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who made no mention of the incident.

As reported earlier, Iyad Halak has been killed by police in Jerusalem. Police said they suspected some object that looked like a gun. However, it later became clear that the victim was unarmed.
