Police officers want to close the famous Meymandari wholesale produce market in the administrative territory of Gai village of Ararat Province, but the locals are opposing the police officers’ actions with a protest.

“I have two children who are studying, and I’m working at this market to pay their tuition fees. Why do the police want to close this market?” one of the villagers said and got emotional.

Another villager said the government is making them panic and forcing them to be afraid of ‘a flu’. “How can an Armenian be afraid of a flu go and fight against the Turks? If the police are closing the market, they have to let people know in advance because there are millions of goods in storage rooms. The police are telling us to close the market and throw the goods away. A government has to take care of the people. If the government is forcing people to do things, the people will come out to the streets and fight for their freedom and this country,” the villager said.

The villagers also stated that they have picked hundreds of kilograms of fruits and vegetables and aren’t able to sell them, and they also have loans to pay off.
