YEREVAN. – Due to the issue of Lake Sevan, three priority measures have been developed, which will begin to be implemented this year, according to importance. Irina Ghaplanyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of Armenia, stated this Tuesday during a press conference.

"The first is to set up a biological wastewater treatment plant in at least one large coastal community, the second is to clean the riverbeds, (…). The third is the recultivation of the abandoned Sotk mine," said the deputy minister, in particular.

According to the official, in all probability, the events within the framework of this program will start in September.

According to her, a certain consumption of phosphorus has already been recorded in the waters of Lake Sevan, which, according to experts, means that the stage of swamping of the lake has begun yet again. "If we can't prevent the flow of that organic mass into the lake in time, we can actually lose the lake," she added.
