US President Donald Trump’s administration plans to ban Chinese passenger carriers from flying to the US since mid-June, thus trying to force Beijing to allow US carriers to resume flights, three US and airline officials told Reuters.

This decision will be announced on Wednesday. The US believes Beijing has not complied with the existing flight agreement between the two largest economies in the world.

Relations between the two countries have also worsened in recent months amid an escalation of tension on the COVID-10 pandemic.

The White House and the Transportation Department declined to comment in this regard.

Trump's administration has accused the Chinese government of not allowing US airlines to resume flights to China.

The restrictions are expected to take effect June 16, but the date could be rescheduled, sources said.
