US President Donald Trump explained his presence at the bunker of the White House during the protests last weekend, saying that he had only inspected the bunker, CNN reported.

Earlier, CNN, citing sources, said that Trump was urgently sent to the bunker for almost an hour due to intense protests. According to them, the first lady Melania Trump and their son Barron were also sent to the bunker.

"They said it would be a good time to go down and take a look because maybe sometime you're going to need it," Trump said.

"I was there for a tiny, short little period of time," he said, adding it was "more for an inspection."

According to Trump, he has already visited the bunker previously. He said he had been there "two and a half times."
