North Korea will cut communication channels with South Korea as it escalates its pressure on the South for failing to stop activists from floating leaflets across the border, CNBC reported.

According to North’s Korean Central News Agency, all cross-border communication lines will be cut off in "the first step of the determination to completely shut down all contact means with South Korea and get rid of unnecessary things."

The decision was reportedly made by Kim Jong Un's sister Kim Yo Jong and Kim Yong Chol, a former hard-line military intelligence chief.

“The South Korean authorities connived at the hostile acts against (North Korea) by the riff-raff, while trying to dodge heavy responsibility with nasty excuses,” KCNA said.

“They should be forced to pay dearly for this.”

Tthe military of the North and South Koreas regularly calls up twice a day to check the connection.
