YEREVAN. – It has nothing to do with politics; it is impudence, and an attempt at manipulation because Mr. Tsarukyan has already been acquitted by the court within the framework of that case. Arman Abovyan, secretary of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) faction, stated this in a talk with journalists in the National Assembly Tuesday, referring to the publication of the reports on the criminal case on the leader of the PAP, of its parliamentary faction, and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan’s conviction in 1979 for gang rape.

To note, Tsarukyan was acquitted in 2001;  22 years after this incident.

"We know very well that during the Soviet years, the police used to put people in such a situation to extort money. There exists a minimum threshold of morality. Politics should not be mixed with the personal,” Abovyan added, in particular.
