Slovakia will enable free travel to and from 16 European countries and cancels the rule to mandatory wear masks outside, Reuters reported referring to Prime Minister Igor Matovic.

Visitors from Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland can visit the country unhindered.

Last week, Slovakia reopened borders with its neighbors the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary.

Slovakia imposed relatively strict restrictions, including the closure of borders, before the appearance of the COVID-19 in the country.

Matovic also noted that compulsory quarantine upon arrival from abroad will be abolished for countries on the safe list, and people will not have to activate 'smart quarantine' on their phones.

Slovaks returning from countries outside the safe list should still quarantine themselves and take a COVID-19 test.

"We are switching from bans to personal responsibility," the PM noted.

In a country with a population of 5.5 million people, 1,531 COVID-19 cases have been reported with 28 deaths.
