The Paris prosecutor’s office has launched a preliminary investigation into the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic to determine if any criminal offenses could have been committed, Reuters reported.

The prosecutor’s statement said the court received 62 complaints about the resolution of the crisis by state bodies, including ministries, local authorities, and nursing homes.

France has recorded 29,209 COVID-19 deaths, with a total of 154,188 confirmed cases.
