Israel's plan on the West Bank annexation is incompatible with international law, AP reported referring to German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

The annexation plan has been sharply criticized by some of Israel’s closest allies, including Germany, who claim that a unilateral redrawing of the Middle East map will destroy long-standing hopes for a Palestinian state.

Maas said Germany and the EU are seeking clarity on the Israeli plan, but noted that Europe considers the annexation to be incompatible with international law.

Standing alongside Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, Maas noted: “We still believe the negotiated two-state solution is the right way, that annexation will not make this solution more probable.”

“I made clear that the German government and the colleagues in the EU are very worried that annexation can lead to the two-state solution no longer being viable and that we are on the wrong path,” he added. “It’s the time of diplomacy and dialogue.”
