Ireland politicians have urged to demolish a statue to Columbus amid the ongoing worldwide protests after the death of African American George Floyd in the US, RG reported referring to the news portal Journal.

MPs from the Solidarity–People Before Profit Alliance and left-wing activists consider it necessary to quickly get rid of the statue, which gives a false impression of Columbus solely as a discoverer, but not the founder of the slave trade industry.

Meanwhile, in the neighboring UK, the struggle with the 'false' historical legacy is in full swing. A statue to local politician Edward Colston, who made a fortune in the slave trade, has been dismantled along with the statue of Winston Churchill being defaced.
