First and foremost, Armenia needs to decide for itself that the customs and tax border starts from the border of the “Meghri” Free Economic Zone. In other words, people who enter this Zone must have the opportunity to pay and carry out economic operations with foreign currency. This is what Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan said in response to deputies’ questions during the discussion on the 2019 state budget performance report held as part of the joint session of parliamentary standing committees today.

According to him, if there is any company operating in the “Meghri” Free Economic Zone, it has to be considered non-resident for the Armenian side in terms of tax, foreign currency and customs. “The regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union provide this opportunity, and Armenia needs to take full advantage of this,” Grigoryan said, adding that specific regulations will be presented after rather long discussions with various government agencies, including the National Security Service.
