Noubar Afeyan’s Moderna Inc will begin a large-scale study in July of the first experimental vaccine against COVID-19, AP reported.

The vaccine, developed by the US National Institutes of Health and Moderna Inc., will be tested on 30,000 volunteers. The company said it had already produced enough doses for the pivotal late-stage testing.

Moderna's announcement suggests that research has made enough progress to prepare for further progress.

Moderna began vaccination in mid-March on 45 volunteers. The company said it completed the registration of 300 young people in the second phase of testing and began to study how older adults respond to the vaccine. These initial studies check for side effects and how well people’s immune systems respond to different doses. But only the upcoming large-scale test can show if the vaccine works.
