YEREVAN. – Operational Safety Review Team (OSART) will visit Armenia on May 16 to monitor security of the Armenian NPP.

OSART is operating under the auspices of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Working group will include nuclear security experts from nine countries, Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Presently security of Metsamor NPP is at a high level which is confirmed by results of regular monitoring conducted by other international commissions. There are no threats to NPP’s security,” reads the statement.

Last month Ashot Martirosyan, Head of the Nuclear Safety Committee, Government of Armenia, said that after the Fukushima nuclear accidents, EU member-states have been offered to conduct serious safety tests at their NPPs.

In his earlier interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Armenian Minister of Energy Armen Movsisyan said that Armenia would not stop using nuclear energy even after the Japan disaster.
